How To Make Natural Mineral Sunscreen For Your Face

I learned how to make my own natural mineral sunscreen and it’s so easy! I’m a sun-worshipper but don’t like using chemical sunscreens.

I started making skincare products during the pandemic, now I’m branching out to making sunscreen. Not only is sunscreen expensive to buy, most sunscreen is full of toxic chemicals. Even the cleanest ones have things like fragrance that I rather not use on my face. On top of that I am so picky about face sunscreen because it always leaves my skin feeling greasy with white streaks.

Watch my TikTok to see how I made my sunscreen. Read the recipe below and I’ll show you how you can make your own.

About This Recipe

This recipe I’ve developed is specifically for the face, neck and decollage, but of course you can use it on your whole body! This sunscreen is suitable for sensitive skin, but always patch test before use.

I have prepared a small batch of this recipe that will typically fit a small face cream jar. You can re-use a moisturizer jar or any small mason jar will do to store your product. Shelf life is 3-6 months.

Warning: When you handle the zinc oxide you need to use a mask and gloves. Once it’s emulsified the product is fine to touch.

Let’s dive in!

Water-resistant Face Sunscreen Recipe

Ingredients:

1 tbsp Coconut Oil

1/2 tbsp Sweet Almond Oil

1 tsp Zinc Oxide

1/2 tsp Red Rasberry Seed Oil

5 drops of Calendula Oil (Optional, great for sensitive skin)

5 drops of Grape Seed oil (This will extend shelf life)

1/4 tsp. Arrowroot Powder (Optional, use this if you really don’t want a greasy feel)

Directions

Take your softened coconut oil and add your almond oil. Beat with an electric mixer until fluffy.

Then put on your mask and gloves and add the zinc oxide. Stir in the red raspberry seed oil, grape seed oil and the calendula. If the texture is still bumpy, mix again with the electric mixer until smooth. Add arrowroot powder if you desire a more matte sunscreen.

Add to your jar and it’s ready to use.

That’s it! It’s pretty easy! I’ll be sharing more recipes like this so make sure to follow!

Disclaimer

After the product sits it may start to separate, so I always give it a little stir with my finger before application.

Without properly testing the sunscreen we don’t know the exact SPF but my guess is around SPF 30. Test the sunscreen yourself by applying to skin and going in the sun to make sure it works and always reapply throughout the day.
